Empires I thought did a really good job showing the 1700s and really early 1800s. It has age of sail ships and a really good combat system, although it is a Turn base with RTS battles. We forgot TTW Empires and Napoleonic which was not as good as empires. I never really was that into AC so I will not comment. POTBS is dead now though due to crappy management and piss poor patches which was down right shameful considering how successful it was for a while. Due to the fact there really is only 3 other age of sail mmo games that I know of ever and they pretty much sucked. POTBS of course in its prime was the best MMORPG age of sail game out and really didn't have too much comp. But I was pretty impressed with the screen shots and concept videos. Don't expect a speedy development on that one, its pretty much unpaid modders making it, so it will get done when it gets done. Pirates Ahoy also showed a "Hearts of Oak" indi game in the works. There is rumors floating around they maybe working on a 3rd installment.maybe. I got allot of game play out of it and feel (moded) it is probably had the true to life feel to it I have seen out of any age of sail game.
The one thing I will say about it is you really should apply one of the super mods to it before playing it, like GOF. Put a fork in it!Īge of Pirates 2 was a really neat single player age of sail game. Its going to fizzel out, if it hasn't already. Their web site even, hasn't been one in a really really long time, which tells me they dont even care anymore. I moved on a while ago and found better games. Its also cool its on steam!Īs far as POTBS it has BEEN dead to me, its been over for some time now. Regardless I may pick it up to hold me over til Mount & Blade Banner lord comes out or Naval Action gets finished.
But it will make up for it in stupid fun avcom!
The only cons I saw is the ship com combat looked pretty crude, same with thee old M&B turn base strategy map. It's early maybe so you never know. It more then likely will not be MMO but will have multi player battles. Mount and Blade melee and shooting avcom is just addictive fun and honestly had a blast playing M&B. So 1st & 3rd person AVCOM both and land & sea. Its using the beloved mount and blade engine, with ship com and ship boarding. Hey Pnakotic, your 100% right if POTBS had something like the M&B avcom system it would have been incredible.Ĭarribean caught my eye too, its an early alpha. It's based on the Mount & Blade system, and looks a lot like everything the original devblogs promised PotBS's AvCom system would be (before they decided to adopt the Phantasy Star arcade ping-kiting fest, instead). Something new has come out on Steam called "Carribean".
That mod is well worth getting for anyone who wants to revisit Empires.ĮDIT: I think some of the people from gamelabs worked on Darthmod.holy crap.interesting! Greatwork! The battles are both land an sea are much more epic, and there are quite a few new units and nations to chose from. In other news lol I also have revisited over the weekend TTW Empires recently, with the "DARTHMOD", which is a complete over hall to the game. I'm going to go into it not expecting much out of ship com, but expecting land and boarding/land battles to have that same fun M&B had. Based on the fun I had playing M&B, and the low price of Carribean, I think It might be worth me playing. Carribean is an indi early alpha so Its really any ones guess on how good the final release will be. I hated boarding though, always felt that was just broken and really exploitable. Well I must confess there was parts of POTBS avcom I found fun, like epics, skirms and dueling. Were POTBS was good ship com with sub par avcom. So its probably going to be great avcom with sub par ship com. So they probably had to design the ship com completely from scratch. I think the reason for that is its using the M&B engine which was pretty much a melee and shooting 3rd/1st person game. config. From what I saw - sea battle looks poor in comparision to POtBS. This has it's own config file for missions.
If this is the first time doing it, you also have to remove the /* and */ lines as this comments it out/makes the code not run if they are there Open the default.cfg config file and place the mission name, not including the. Upload the mission to the mpmissions folder via FTP or the File Manager upload feature. It can be dragged and dropped via the file explorer or moved manually with FTP. If you are installing a workshop mission file you must move it from its mod folder in the file manager to the mpmissions folder. To add ARMA3 missions to your Arma 3 server you will need to obtain the mission file for the mission you require.
